What to Consider When Presenting to a Lender | Blake Reeves

You know your business better than anyone else! A business owner knows every detail of their business but sometimes finds it difficult to convey these details. As a lender, this information is essential for me to be able fully understand how your business operates. Below is an outline of things to consider when presenting to a lender.

Detailed Company Description

• Company History
• Your experience and biography. Also provide this information for any other key management personnel.
• Products & Services

Market Analysis

• How many competitors?
• Market share of competitors?
• What are you opportunities in the market? (competitor weaknesses)
• What are your threats? (competitor advantages)
• What is your strategy for gaining market share or creating a niche?

Operations

• How do you supply your services or product?
• How do you deliver the product to the buyer?
• Do you have a business location and how was it selected?

Ownership

• Partnership
• How much does each partner own?
• Partner’s involvement and experience?

Management & Personnel

• Who manages & operates daily activities?
• Are you onsite and if multiple locations what is the experience of your management team to effectively control the operation?
• How do you retain good management? (benefit packages, incentives, etc.)

Marketing Plan

• How do you plan on selling your product and who is your consumer?
• Advertising Strategies
• Sales Force
• How will you educate the consumer about your product or service? Everyone will not have the same passion about your business as you do!

Financial Statements & Projections

• Provide accurate and well prepared financial information
• If available provide 3 to 5 years of income and expenses
• Understand and walk through financials with lender…the good and the bad!

Contingency or Exit Strategy

• What happens if your business does not succeed?
• How will you repay your debt?

I enjoy working with business owners and fostering the idea of entrepreneurship. I would be happy to further explain any of the information in this post. Click here to read my previous blog post, Credit Analysis & Lender Strategies.
