If you are looking for a personal money manager to provide fixed income and/or equity investment management, our Trust Department has an experienced portfolio management team that can provide you and your family with tax sensitive income, diversified growth or a combination of both in a balanced portfolio according to your investment objectives.
Delta Trust uses several sources of objective research for our investment decisions and selections of fixed income and equity assets.
We also provide you with investment performance measurements that compare the relevant benchmarks for that type of fixed income and equity investments in your portfolio.
We believe the key to investing success is having a well thought out strategy and having the discipline to execute in all market conditions. While there are many different investment strategies that will prove successful over time, we feel that what differentiates a good investor from a great investor is discipline. One (of many) examples can be found in Chart 1. During periods of market stress, many otherwise rational investors react based on emotion. If an investor remained invested over the time period, they would have earned 9.9% versus the average investor return of 3.8%.
Our investment process centers on developing an effective Investment Policy Statement (IPS). The IPS clearly defines the goals and expectations of the client and the portfolio manager. During this initial process, we match the resources available to the client and the client’s risk tolerance to the goals of the client.
To minimize risk to the portfolio, we diversify among a range of cash, stocks, bonds, commodities, and real estate. Analysis of the asset allocation decision reveals that about 90% of the asset allocation returns can be explained by the portfolio’s target asset allocation policy . In other words, the decision to invest in stocks or bonds is more important to performance than which stock you buy. Accordingly, we use a top down asset allocation strategy. This allows us to attempt to minimize volatility and take advantage of mispricing opportunities in the market. We believe that minimizing risk is the key to a successful investment strategy.
As our fees are based upon the assets under management, we have an incentive to minimize any transaction costs which could serve to reduce the value of the account. Also, we do not have any proprietary products that would serve as a conflict of interest.
Performance & Discipline
The best process will fail without effective execution. We are proud of our discipline to the process during the market turmoil of 2008. As can be seen in the charts below, all Delta Trust cumulative returns are positive for the five year period. More importantly, all client portfolios that we managed with full-discretion for that time period show positive performance.
We have five target allocations depending on the risk tolerance and goals of the client, from maximum growth for the most aggressive, to income for the least. The charts show the five year performance for each of the allocations, in addition to stock and bond performance, and the loss to our client’s portfolios during the worst time periods during that span.
